UI Developer 6 Months Initial Contract Location: Cardiff Overall purpose of role: The Developer role is responsible the production of high quality and fit for purpose application code. In this instance the role is for a UI Developer responsible for building the UI. The role involves working alongside stakeholders, developers, testers & the UI design teams, to take requirements and transform them into working, deployable applications that will ultimately delight and surprise the client's customers. Innovation and continuous improvement is an extremely important part of the role as well as being a role model to other team members and colleagues. Key Accountabilities and Skills required: This section should include: Delivery (75%) - Accountable for the production of high quality code on a personal level adhering to all software engineering quality standards / benchmarks. - Collaborate and communicate with other developers to build technical solutions - Collaborate and communicate with design & UX teams, to understand experience and brand - Responsible for inputting into technical decisions that require a strong understanding of the problem domains - Provide technical advice and guidance to other team members - Embrace innovation by actively advocating new tools, processes and technical developments to drive continuous improvement throughout the software development lifecycle by maintaining an in-depth understanding of relevant and up to date knowledge of applications and techniques. Stakeholder Management and Leadership (25%) - Promote stewardship and application best practices within the development team - Knowledge of emerging software development methods, tools and standards and actively keep this knowledge current. - Embrace innovation by recognising newly arising opportunities for improving customer satisfaction, achieving technical excellence and improving the delivery of a software product. - Identify own development needs and seek opportunities to address these needs through guidance, coaching and formal training. - Ability to be able to provide succinct details in written format and verbally to Stakeholders Decision-making and Problem Solving - Manage business requirements to understand how system requirements fit within overall business solution. Challenge any requirements that are incomplete or do not provide sufficient clarity to support effective software development. - Manage requirements to understand how both functional and non-functional aspects (e.g. capacity, availability, response times, etc.) need to be met. - Manage requirements to understand how they will be tested following production of code. - Analysis and understanding of customer needs and priorities to provide quality services. - Strong experience in creative problem solving and successfully executing tasks. - Experience in explaining, advocating and expressing facts and ideas in a variety of settings orally, in presentations and in writing. Risk and Control Objective - Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Policies and Policy Standards - Adhere to Policies & Standards appropriate to the role - outlined in the Code of Conduct and mandatory training. Will also be required to ensure that all risks identified are managed as per Risk Framework procedures, ensure risk events (incidents) and control failures are investigated, reported, fixed and/or escalated to prevent reoccurrence. - In addition, will be responsible to ensure all personal mandatory training is completed within timelines and any key controls. Your Skills and Qualifications will include Essential: - End-to-end software development lifecycle - Agile Software development techniques - Test Driven Development and automated testing techniques and tools - Knowledge of Object Orientated Programming/Design and associated concepts. - Deep understanding of the importance of code quality and the tools that can help the development communities monitor and maintain quality (e.g. SonarQube) - JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular 2, React), node.js - HTML5 responsive design - CSS3 and CSS pre-processors - Build tools (Grunt, Gulp, Webpack) - Version Control Software (Git) - Accessibility Standards (WCAG) - AJAX & JSON - Experience of working within a regulatory driven change environment Preferred: - Experience of working within Financial Services - Experience of working within banking programmes / role - Awareness of leading-edge tools, techniques and services within IT
