Mechanical Design Engineer Cardiff Permanent/Full-Time £26,565.88 - £32,000 per annum 08:00 – 16:15 Monday to Friday ST5611 Mechanical Design Engineer required to join an internationally recognised electronics manufacturer. The role will involve designing and developing Toughbook Solutions and the associated fixings for Computer Docking Solutions. Key Responsibilities: •Concept design of new products in response to customer requirements •Mechanical design of new products using a range of Industry standard and Panasonic design guidelines •Development and delivery of new products on schedule and in budget •Testing of new assemblies to ensure product conformity •Project manage the design and developments in relation to vehicle integration •Enhance customer satisfaction by delivering designs with safety, performance, reliability and schedule in mind and in presenting these directly to the customer Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required: •Degree level qualification in an Engineering or Product Design based discipline desirable but not essential. •3-5 years relevant industry experience. •Must be experienced in the use of 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) •Must be able to demonstrate mechanical design and engineering capability based on projects undertaken •Must be experienced in the design of sheet metal and fabricated components and in the design of plastic mouldings and machined parts •Must have experience in the use of the basic Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) •Experience in the use of a FARO measuring system advantageous •Experience with the design of electronic enclosures and EMC management would be of benefit •Experience in simple mechanism design advantageous •The ability to deliver conceptual proposals in short timeframe •Experience within the automotive industry would be of substantial benefit •Prince 2 practitioner, APMP certificates or experience of managing multiple simultaneous projects would be advantageous •Knowledge of testing standards associated with installing aftermarket products into vehicles would be advantageous •Knowledge and experience of Design for Manufacture would be advantageous Additional Specifications •Must be able to work autonomously and as part of a team •Ability to work in a fast paced but rewarding working environment •Candidates will be asked for evidence of experience (present/past projects and achievements etc) •Presentation skills would be advantageous •Must be able to deliver accurate and articulate reports including those of a technical nature •Some European travel will be expected within this role so ability to travel (sometimes at short notice) will be required.
