Who are we?

Solas provides a wide range of high quality accommodation based services for young people 16+, adults aged 18+, families across South Wales and substance misuse treatment services. We provide accommodation and Individual support packages to our customers and access can access a range of volunteering, education, employment and training opportunities. Our aim is to move people onto independence. We provide access to permanent settled accommodation and a programme of activities and training opportunities to support people to develop the skills they need to successfully move on with their lives

The Scheme
George Street support young people, predominantly between the ages of 16-18, who have typically led very difficult lives. Often they`ve spent their childhood and adolescence in Local Authority care, experiencing many changes of home environment including different residential and foster homes.
The young people are all Care Leavers who have involvement from Social Services. Many have experienced significant trauma brought on by abuse and neglect in early years. As a result we work with young people who display a range of complex behaviours including attachment disorders, personality disorders, self harm and parasuicide, risk taking behaviour, alcohol and substance misuse and offending behaviour.

What will you do?

Provide a continuous and consistent approach to support for vulnerable Young People, helping them make the transition into independent living and advise on re-housing options.
To provide support with budgeting and money management, including welfare benefits.
Provide support in a practical way, with regards to education, training and employment and day to day living.
Liaise with Social Services, the Benefit Agency, Housing Department, Resettlement Worker, Health and Safety and other relevant agencies, on matters affecting prospective and current clients.

Who are we looking for? (more detail in role profile):

-Relevant experience in Children, Young People and Family services
-Ability to work as part of a team
-Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure
-Experience of working face to face with vulnerable young people or other vulnerable groups
-Some knowledge of financial procedures and budgeting controls and knowledge of the benefits system.

You will have experience of working with challenging young people. This role requires flexibility and the ability to work on your own initiative in a busy and dynamic role.

You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to produce individual support plans and other written reports and monitoring information as required. You will also possess the following skills: Time Management, Problem Solving, Relationship building, be organised, and ideally have knowledge of the issues younger people face in this area
