An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join a government organisation that incorporates and dissolves limited companies, registers the information companies are legally required to supply, and makes that information available to the public. Based in Cardiff, the successful Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager will earn a salary of £26,927 to £33,031 per annum, depending on experience.      

As a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager you will be mainly responsible for ensuring the business meets all its Health and Safety obligations as well as working on the development of the Health and Wellbeing initiatives to support the overall strategy. Your main duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to: 
  • To provide professional advice and support on all H&S matters, to all areas of the business, to achieve legal compliance and promote best practice
  • Carry out H&S inspections, as required, across all sites (Cardiff, London, Edinburgh and Belfast)
  • Maintain, review, and deliver all aspects of the CH H&S Management Control System and OHSAS 18001(including preparation for re-assessments)
  • Ensure all relevant training is provided for all levels of the business in relation to H&S (including delivery of H&S new entrant Induction training)
  • Ensure H&S policies and procedures are fit for purpose and are embedded across the organisation to maintain legal compliance and reduce risk
  • To lead on and advise on all aspects of risk assessments within the organisation
  • Monitor contractor’s performance on H&S issues in conjunction with our Estates Management Team
  • Investigate, record and where applicable report to HSE any on site accidents. Collate information for personal injury claims as required.
  • Manage the H&S budget (taking account of Commercial Awareness and Value for Money)
  • Act as a member of the Internal Response Team during evacuations and highlight to senior management; outcomes and any areas for improvement
  • Work with the business in ensuring we are continuously working within and reviewing our performance against the Corporate Health Standard
  • Develop, promote and provide support in the delivery of our Health and Wellbeing programme with a focus on preventing sickness absence through a more proactive and improved approach to health and wellbeing
  • Working closely with Managers and the HR Business Partners to advise on relevant reasonable adjustments and interventions relating to sickness absence, attendance and wellbeing
  • Manage the CH Occupational Health Contract and CH OH service
To be considered for the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager position you must have demonstrable experience of working in a similar role. In addition, you must possess the following key skills and experience:
  • NEBOSH Diploma is desirable or NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is essential, with a view to working towards attaining the NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Up to date knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Experience in working effectively with a trade union
  • Extensive experience of managing complex change
  • Leading and Communicating, leading from the front and communicating with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to make important and effective decisions using sound judgement
  • Excellent organisation skills, with ability to plan and manage time effectively
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to promote change
  • Be commercially and financially aware
