The Serennu Children's Centre in Newport is one of Europe's leading specialist facilities for children with a disability or developmental difficulty. Opened in 2011, the centre is supported by the children's charity Sparkle and helps more than 400 children and families every week through the provision of medical and holistic care. We are looking for a new Fundraising and Events Manager who will be in charge of raising the charity's profile and income so we can help even more children.

Overall purpose

You will be responsible for:

developing and leading our fundraising and events strategy and increasing awareness of the Sparkle brand amongst its target audiences;

managing partnerships with key donor partners and developing new fundraising partnerships and opportunities with organisations and businesses (SMEs & corporates) and other fundraising target audiences including service users and the general public.

developing and implementing a calendar of fundraising events;

ensuring that our fundraising and events activity are measured and meet income targets and improve year-on-year in terms of revenue, satisfaction and engagement.

Main responsibilities

Meet annual income targets for Sparkle and partner events of which you have responsibility. Lead on the planning, project management and delivery of our fundraising activity and events including (but not exclusively) the venue, catering, participants, registration, sponsorship, consultants, entertainment, staff and volunteers.

Produce an annual fundraising and events strategy setting out our goals for the year, and the steps we intend taking to improve our fundraising and events activity in terms of income, satisfaction and engagement.

Lead, deliver and maintain effective administrative support for all fundraising activities of the charity, including managing funder relationships, correspondence, meetings and data collation and reporting.

Provide project management and event support for Sparkle events with corporate and individual funders and charity partners; as well as support for events at which Sparkle is the beneficiary charity.

Manage all data and reporting in relation to the management, delivery and impact of the fundraising and events we organise, or from which we benefit, including the relationships with individuals who give through said activity. You will input into reports that evidence performance against annual fundraising targets as part of our Annual Plan.

Steer and lead the development and implementation of fundraising strategies for the charity and implement activities to meet the priorities and objectives within the strategy

Lead on the research into, and the development and management of key donor relationships in order to meet the charity's priorities at any given time which includes (but not exclusively): corporate donors, media and event partners and individual donors.

Input into the preparation of campaigns and marketing materials and activities related to the charity's fundraising and events.

Provide data and other inputs for reports on our impact, not least for the Board of Trustees.

Manage the selection and recruitment of any consultants, contractors and partners delivering services in partnership with or on behalf of Sparkle, including contract management for which you (or your team members) are responsible.

Advise the Board on all financial requirements in relation to your area of responsibility as part of our budgeting process, as well as any revisions thereof, and be accountable for managing expenditure in line with a budget.

Ensure that our fundraising and events work is compliant with appropriate health & safety legislation, as well as with fundraising standards set out by regulatory and other bodies.

Provide information and input as requested by the Board, and any other working groups established to support our major events.

Manage Sparkle's Fundraising and Events Officer (P/T), providing induction, supervision, support, training and development to the post holder, and ensuring that they meet agreed objectives while working in line with our core values.

Ensure effective diary management to enable calculations for return on investment (ROI) in terms of time versus yield.

Terms and conditions

Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm (37.5 hours per week)

Holidays: 25 days per year (not including bank holidays)

Essential requirements

Experience

Proven experience of managing fundraising events from conception to completion and delivering against financial and non-financial KPIs, and experience of delivering income growth in fundraising.

Strategy development skills with experience of developing and implementing a fundraising and events strategy that increases income and engagement.

Proven ability to build, manage and develop relationships with people at all levels and from a range of backgrounds using verbal, written and face-to-face channels.

Influencing and negotiating skills, with experience of managing external stakeholders including corporate partners, charities and consultants.

Experience of managing and motivating staff or volunteers.

Excellent numeracy skills with attention to detail and ability to analyse budgets and data

Written communication skills with experience of tailoring writing for varied audiences and varied channels.

Ability and understanding to use database technology to support fundraising activity and analysis.

Good understanding of legal requirements relating to fundraising and best practice for event management.

Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel and Outlook.

Desirable requirements

Experience/knowledge

Knowledge of grant-making and policy work in the children's charitable sector

Proven ability to manage and improve processes to deliver efficient work practices

Relevant qualifications or memberships (degree/diploma/Institute of Marketing)

Marketing and public relations experience
