A world leading company are currently opening a new Data Centre within the South Wales area and require a Data Centre Construction Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. You will be in charge of a team in the construction and ongoing development of the Data Centre/halls, including data networks, cabling, HVAC and electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Reporting directly into the Chief Technology Officer you will play a pivotal role in the success of the business. You will be hands on at time; put on PPE, get out onto site driving sub-contractors and leading by example. The successful applicant should be at a mid-management stage in their career, eager to step up.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in construction with knowledge of controls and principles, and is familiar with mechanical and electrical data centre infrastructure.

Main responsibilities:
  • Lead programmes of projects within the Office of the CTO utilising all available resources and relationships, managing dependencies, risks, plans, costs and resourcing needs across a portfolio of programmes and projects.
  • Accountable for leading and managing suppliers in the delivery of services.
  • Ensure that risks, dependencies, cost and quality requirements are met by the suppliers at all times. Identify and mitigate potential issues as early as possible minimising the business impact.
  • Accountable for the consistent application of practices and standards adhering to programme governance arrangements, including project planning, budget controls, reporting, change control, analysing and pro-actively managing risks.
  • Provide consultancy-style services to support the Business Stakeholders and project delivery teams at initiation and throughout the life cycle of programmes and projects, ensuring a common approach is adopted and sharing good practice.
  • Support the Business in carrying out quality assurance activities and advising on solutions during the lifetime of the programme and individual projects; for example, facilitating workshops involving project teams, stakeholders and members of the programme team.
  • Accountable for managing master copies of all programme and project information, generating all necessary quality management documentation, maintaining, controlling and updating programme documentation, establishing and maintaining the index to an electronic library of programme information.
  • Accountable for formally managing programme and project change to company standards and processes, including working with, and to, PMO standards.

This role will be privy to some confidential and sensitive information and as such, you will be expected to treat all information as sensitive discussing it only with those people who have the necessary authority.

Skills/Experience
  • Strong track record of delivery infrastructure projects and programmes
  • Good understanding/experience with M&E, IT and networks
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical Infrastructure and associated controls
  • Strong knowledge and experience of construction activities
  • Excellent all round understanding and skills in managing and delivering technical projects
  • Proven at delivering complex technical refresh and data centre migration projects on time and to quality
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Fully conversant with established project delivery methodologies
  • Assertive and confident with a high level of personal and professional credibility
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Able to quickly build a high level of personal and professional credibility within the business
  • Ability to lead and engage people in a fast-changing environment to achieve results through others
