Head of HR Compliance, Reward and Employment Relations £48,327 per annum to £55,998 per annum (pro-rata if part time) together with USS pension benefits, if required. Main Purpose of the Post: This individual will be accountable to the Director for the aspirational leadership and development of a team of HR professionals and specialists, defining and leading outcomes that are aligned to the University’s strategic aim of becoming a sustainable Top 30 University. They will be highly visible at a University and strategic level and role model exceptional leadership. They will be accountable for developing the team’s capability and insight in accordance with University’s strategic aims with regard to employment relations, HR policy, compliance, pay provision, reward & recognition and organisational change, through developing strong working relationships with stakeholders, including trades unions. They will have strong HE sector experience and will develop exceptional insight into the University’s business and culture, identifying risks and opportunities providing flexible, innovative solutions that will deliver cultural change across the University to achieve its sustainable top 30 strategic plan. Acting with a strong sense of purpose and a dynamic vision, they will confidently advise and challenge Senior Management Team, Heads of College and Directors utilising their professional expertise. They will continually evaluate their own impact, that of their team and of the overall function in order to improve as a professional and drive sustainable performance. Recognised as an authority in the HE sector, develop and maintain influential relationships with key stakeholders across the University, including trades unions, and externally within the HE sector, to build insight into existing levels of capability against future requirements and to identify gaps and risks to the University’s sustainable top 30 strategic plan. Accountable for the leadership and development of a team of HR professionals to deliver aspirational, successful HR outcomes that will deliver cultural change across the University to achieve its sustainable top 30 strategic plan. Role modelling a continuous improvement approach, providing clarity and direction, creating a culture that motivates others to be innovative, outcome focussed and to perform effectively. Responsible for developing a positive employment relations climate focusing on individual and collective relationships, resulting in high levels of employee involvement, commitment and engagement. Work in partnership with the HR community, and with senior leaders and stakeholders, including trades unions, across the University to develop shared insights and implement systematic solution orientated approaches in accordance with the University’s plan and strategy. Accountable for HR compliance, policy and processes that are customer focussed, developed through engagement with stakeholders within a clear policy framework with well -defined HR templates and HR products. Accountable for University Pay and Reward policy, processes and systems that are developed and implemented in accordance with University strategic objectives, through engagement with stakeholders and in alignment with national policy and initiatives. Responsible for HR analytics and systems and for ensuring statutory reports such as HESA and UCEA returns are submitted on time and to the required standard. Utilising Management Information to determine trends and themes and accountable for implementing subsequent actions, through working in partnership with HR colleagues and other stakeholders Accountable for the leadership of University change initiatives or change of business expectations that have a human impact. Responsible for ensuring that all actions are delivered in accordance with University policy and procedures, the law and good practice. Working in partnership with senior HR stakeholders, accountable for the provision of professional expertise to senior members of HR and senior stakeholders on serious employment relations matters, ensuring consistency and fairness of decision making across the University. Accountable to the Director for operational management of the HR budget, preparation of funding bids, spend and forecasting Use a coaching style of leadership to enable senior stakeholders to take accountability for HR Policy, Compliance, Pay Provision, Reward and Recognition Outcomes across the University. Design, deliver and evaluate training and facilitation interventions that are impactful and deliver quality HR outcomes in line with the university’s vision. Accountable for leading an outward looking and future focussed professional team, horizon scanning and using professional networks to benchmark and research trends and innovative approaches that will enable the university’s Continually seek and act on feedback to learn and develop as a professional and as a leader taking responsibility for own CPD and act as a role model for the senior team. Person Specification: Essential Criteria Values Demonstrable evidence of creating a culture that delivers successful outcomes through people, developing and challenging teams to succeed and take pride in delivering professional services and solutions. Ability to enable teams to work together and across functions to deliver successful outcomes that exceed the needs and expectations of customers, and in creating environments that demonstrate equality, foster trust, respect and challenge. Demonstrable experience of creating environments that identify, understand and give priority to delivering the needs of the customer, and in motivating and inspiring teams to provide the highest standards of personalised care Qualifications A current CIPD membership qualification or significant relevant experience with a commitment to qualify within the next 24 months Experience Evidence of development, project planning and implementation of Strategic HR Policy, Compliance, Pay Provision, Reward and Recognition Outcomes that have been delivered on time and to the required level, implementing a systematic solution orientated approach. Significant experience at HR professional level within the HE or FE sector, developing and maintaining influential, impactful relationships with key stakeholders, including trades unions.
