BRC have been approached by a national Homelessness Charity to recruit for two experienced Debt Advisers in Llanelli and Swansea. The position based in Llanelli is a 17.5 hour per week contract, whilst the Swansea position is a full-time role on 35 hours per week. Our client is a Welsh charity that strives for the prevention of homelessness, the improvement of housing conditions, and the right of everyone to a safe, suitable and affordable home. The main purpose of these positions is to deliver and develop high quality, cost effective debt advice, and advocacy and support services to members of the welsh community in housing need. DAY TO DAY DUTIES: o Provide specialist debt advice face to face and via phone and e-mail, for one-off enquiries and more complex casework o Offer appropriate specialist debt and generalist income maximisation advice, information and practical help o Identify cases that qualify under the Money Advice Service criteria and ensure that the necessary procedures are followed and recording and reporting systems maintained. o Advocate on behalf of clients in the appropriate forums if necessary o Provide second-tier advice, updates and training to staff members of external agencies o Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to promote the debt advice service to other agencies and potential funders. o Maintain positive working relationships with relevant external agencies o Contribute to the achievement of team budget targets. o Ensure all casework records are kept updated, accessible to other staff and all local casework information systems are maintained effectively. o Undertake a review of the way that housing-related debt advice is currently undertaken and make recommendations for improvement. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: o Knowledge of debt and debt-related benefits law, regulations and guidance. o A working understanding of current debt & housing issues; as well as the debt, housing and voluntary sectors in Wales DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: o Able to speak Welsh fluently o Full driving licence and access to a vehicle Benefits for these positions include competitive salaries, 31 days annual leave plus bank holidays and a 4% contributory pension scheme.
