Health, Safety & Environmental Manager
Merthyr Tydfil/Dowlais


Main purpose of post:

To implement the Health, Safety & Environmental strategy and vision at our clients manufacturing sites at Merthyr Tydfil and Dowlais. Embedding continuous improvement and a positive safety culture on both sites.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Provide a regular review of the Health & Safety strategy, ensuring it remains up to date with legislative/regulatory need.
  • Build effective proactive relationships with operational leads to ensure that all Health, Safety and Environmental strategies are understood and effectively communicated.
  • Develop and maintain site management systems, procedures and protocols to ensure that production activities remain in line with legislative requirements.
  • Develop and regularly update HS&E policies and procedures.
  • Carry out Audits for ISO14001 & OHSAS18001.
  • Integrate Health, Safety & Environment requirements into the appropriate QMS work instructions ensuring document control and HS&E related training.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure compliance requirements are being controlled, documented and maintained in accordance with the appropriate regulations/guidelines (e.g. statutory inspections, Legionella, Asbestos and Fire).
  • Provide monthly summary reports for both sites detailing accident statistics, trends, compliance with KPI's, action completion rates, audit outcomes and any areas for improvement.
  • Provide a quarterly summary report for the Executive team.
  • Establish and Chair a Health, Safety & Environment Committee.
  • Meet regularly and formally with operational heads, providing the level of support necessary for the completion of actions to the agreed timescales.
  • Provide training and coaching to ensure competence in delivery of HS&E processes (e.g. Risk Assessment, Accident/Incident Investigation reporting).
  • Provide technical and regulatory support and advice to the Executive and management team when required.
  • Act as liaison for any regulatory inspections or enforcement agency, ensuring effective and timely communication to the Executive and management team.
  • To act as a safety role model exhibiting and promoting best practice at all times.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in HSE role in a manufacturing environment,
  • Strong achievement around developing and sustaining a HSE culture and ISO standards.
  • Ability to engage, influence and ensure accountability at all levels.
  • Effective planning, organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Prepared on occasions to work outside of normal office hours.
  • Computer literate.


  • NEBOSH Diploma or required General Certificate.
